"We can't judge Montreal by the first and second years," Wallace said. "We've really got to judge this race by its fourth and fifth year, because what seems to be happening is every time we do an international deal, it loses its luster. It starts way up because everyone is real excited, then it goes down, down, down.
"We tried Japan and Mexico, so maybe the third time's the charm. There's really no difference between running Watkins Glen or Montreal. It's just a couple of miles farther up here. Even though it's international, it doesn't feel like it."
Wallace, 23rd and 26th in the two practice sessions Friday, is making his 406th start in the series. He raced to the last of his nine victories in 2001.

PAIN TRANCHE: Teen star Joey Logano was in the middle of the field in both qualifying sessions Friday before his first NASCAR road-course start.
The 18-year-old Connecticut driver -- dubbed "Sliced Bread," as in, "the greatest thing since ..." -- was 18th at 92.600 mph in overcast conditions in the first practice and 17th in the sunny second session at 92.041
"I learned a lot. We'll get the hang of it," said Logano, whose nickname translates to "Pain Tranche" in French.
In position to replace Tony Stewart next year in Joe Gibbs Racing's Sprint Cup lineup, Logano won at Kentucky Speedway in June in his third Nationwide Tour start and added second-place finishes at Milwaukee and Gateway.

SUBSTITUTE DRIVERS: Points leader Clint Bowyer, defending series champion Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, David Ragan and David Reutimann are driving in the Nationwide event and the Sprint Cup race in Long Pond, Pa.
The missed practice Friday and also will skip qualifying Saturday, forcing them to start at the back of the field.
Stephen Leicht, fifth last year at Montreal, is filling in for Bowyer in the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Erik Darnell (Edwards), Colin Braun (Biffle), Auggie Vidovich (Ragan) and Chris Cook (Reutimann) also are subbing in Montreal.

Stan Barrett, 65, was the first to reach the speed of sound in a ground vehicle, going 739.666 mph in 1979. He had two top-10 finishes in 19 Sprint Cups starts from 1980-90. ... Gilles Villeneuve, driver Jacques Villeneuve's father, was killed in a crash during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. The Montreal track was renamed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve soon after the accident. ... Michael Schumacher won seven Formula One races at the track from 1994 to 2004.
